Both anime didn't really put anything new to the table but they're still pretty enjoyable to watch although in my opinion Cavalry is a cut above Asterisk in almost all aspect. And it goes without saying that the main heroines eventually falls in love with the main protagonist. Asterisk's main protagonist is a guy who seems to always have a smile on his face while Cavalry's main protagonist is more of the serious type. The main protagonists personalities also differs. The main difference between the two, of course, is the main plot and also the main protagonists reasons and motivations for fighting. Both anime also has a tournament of some sort in school where our main characters will participate. They had a chance encounter with the pink-haired fire-wielding tsundere-ish main heroine and somehow evoke their anger resulting into a duel where the main protagonist eventually win. Both anime are set in a futuristic magic school where we have a main protagonist who's underestimated in the beginning but is actually really strong. They're both so similar that I sometimes get their stories mixed up. These two anime are basically a clone of one another.
BTW these are just the similarities between the first light novels from both of them. But seriously they are both good (as far as I can tell) and the Gakusen light novel is being translated ATM as well as the Rakudai so both have new content that is still coming out. There are more similarities, as other people have pointed out some I didn't include in this list. MC has to bring another swordsmen girl out of being manipulated and becomes friends with her and trains with her. There seems to be a class war between the new generation of (Blazers/Genestella) vs the normal people.ġ4. Both MC male and MC female must win the tournament to accomplish their own goals.ġ3. The student councils are OP and somehow command a crazy amount of power over non school associations.ġ2. There are school rankings and multiple school 'battle festivals' for schools to compete with each other.ġ1. MC's are friends with a shady stealthy person.ġ0. There is a loli-ish childhood female that the MC knows.ĩ. Both princesses develop a respect for the MC.Ĩ. Both princesses are fire users with a hot temper trying to do the best for their country.Ħ.
